Alexandria, Virginia and DC Part 1

Hey family friends and following folks!
Thanks for being here.

Erik and I are in Alexandria, Virginia very comfortably settled at our good friends Justine and Tim's new house! I lived with Justine in Poughkeepsie along with her (our 😋) cats Jinx and Icki. Erik was a rock star (!!!) and drove the whole way here from Saratoga and we arrived at 11pm on Tuesday night.

Since we're living in their house we made breakfast on Wednesday morning and brought it out to the van to simulate the van morning experience. Doors open, Erik sitting outside in the one lawn chair that we brought with us, me sitting on the floor of the van will probably be the usual breakfast positions with the setting evolving around us a little bit each day.

We took a walk around the neighborhood and through Ben Brenman Park in Alexandria - we saw a snake cohabiting a rock with a turtle!!- then went into DC to help my childhood friend Alie move tons of supplies for a fundraiser she organized for work from her apartment to the venue. We really enjoy sharing the useful aspects of the van like the space for helping to move things and the bed on wheels that comes in handy for hungover friends or brothers during cousins weddings 😜.

We went to the event later on and had a great time meeting people, learning about her work, and we each won a couple silent auction items. Afterwards we went out for a drink and then walked over to the Washington Monument.

It is now Thursday (I just double checked) and we are enjoying another ~80 degree day in Alexandria. I'm doing some work for The Democracy Collaborative and Erik is doing some house projects for Justine and Tim - so far priming some walls for painting in the kitchen, and helping with some electrical work.

That about brings us up to speed! Before we left NY we had scoped out dates to be in each place and estimated that we would leave DC tomorrow. I like having a structure! BUT this is our (maybe only) chance to go structure-less and we haven't gotten the chance to do half of the things on our list yet - which is okay! We're going to give it until Sunday and see how we do in the next couple days.

That's all for now! We're looking forward to more opportunities to camp and cook in the van but enjoying the house time while we have it. There will be plenty of van time in North Carolina before we head over to Tennessee!

Thinking about everyone in Saratoga!

Thanks again for joining us along our journey 😊
